Acclaimed pianist Kathryn Woodard has taught somatic disciplines to musicians since 1998 and was certified to teach Body Mapping in 2002. She has presented workshops at numerous music schools including the Guildhall School in London, the Cincinnati College Conservatory and Temple University. Her research “Teaching Movement to Musicians” was published in the British journal of Music Education in 2009.
Kathryn Woodard will lead us in a workshop on Body Mapping. Attendees will learn about the structure and function of the body in movement in order to play and sing with increasing ease and freedom. Body Mapping is an excellent resource to draw upon in teaching music and will benefit those suffering from pain and injury. Specific topics will include: Training the Senses and Attention; Identifying Places of Balance; Mapping the Arm Structure; and Movements of Breathing.
